Halloween Bunco

Okay you are right it isn't Halloween yet, but I was hosting Bunco in October so it seemed fitting to do a Halloween theme. Since it was Bunco I had to serve 12 people. I certainly have several sets of dishes that will serve 12 or more, but I have not invested in Halloween dishes to feed 12. I was tempted to just purchase solid black dishes from Walmart for $1.75 a piece. While the $21 for 12 dishes didn't seem too bad, it meant that I needed cloth tablecloths. Since I wasn't able to find any I liked to purchase, it would have had to buy fabric and make them. While this could have been cheaper then buying pre-made tablecloths, I wasn't feeling rich enough at the time to add more investment to Bunco. (Not to mention the time to make the tablecloths) Especially when I will rarely be entertaining 12 people for Halloween. Plus it means storing more dishes, and I am not sure I can accommodate any more dishes.

Long story short, I decided to go with paper plates and vinyl tablecloths. I ended up paying the same for all the tablecloths and paper products that I would have paid for just the black dishes. So here is the first of the tables.

If I had unlimited funds and storage space I would have liked to have used black cake stands to elevate the centerpieces, but instead they had to be table height.I love the pumpkin man with the top hat. Can you believe I got him at Marshall's for $4.99! I love bargain shopping.

This little cat in his pumpkin costume, I bought several years ago at one of the discount stores, can you believe that Marshall's had him this year for sale. $4.99

I love these favors. I found the template for the little guy on them about 2 years ago. It was originally done as an invitation. I found these cute black boxes at Orientaltrading.com and thought his face would be perfect on them. Orange circles, pointed hat, tinsel and a black pom-pom and cute favors are created!
So basic black paper plates, orange napkins and black plastic utensils tied with an orange polka dot ribbon. I love the polka dots on the tablecloth too. As one of the girls at Bunco mentioned it was all so cute with the dots since we were playing Bunco which is a dice game so everything had dots. I hadn't thought about it, but I guess it did work out well.Again if I had unlimited funds, I would have had black chair covers on folding chairs and orange sashes. I have white chair covers but they fit a banquet chair. I used to have 40 banquet chairs. Then I had 20 and my mom had 20. My dad convinced my mother to get rid of hers so only I had chairs. Then my husband convinced me to give away mine. I bargained and got to keep 6 of my banquet chairs, I should have kept 8. Then my grandma bought a bunch of folding chairs for her 90th birthday party. She gave them away after the party and I took 6 of those. Folding chairs are much easier to store. Alas, I don't have chair covers for the folding chairs, yet. (Don't tell my husband that I plan to buy them) Of course white would be my first choice for chair covers. They fit every occasion, except Halloween. But if I look for a good deal long enough hopefully I will be able to buy both black and white.

I can only imagine what the tables would have been like with black chair covers, black cake stands to put the centerpieces on. I had an idea for orange or white mini pumpkins, with black polka dots painted on them. Black china, orange and black gingham or plaid fabric table toppers over black table cloths. Of course for Bunco, I have to remove the centerpieces so we can play the game. My husband wondered why we couldn't just play the game. His first question is always "Does everyone do this for Bunco?" My response is "No, just me". I am hoping that someday I will inspire the girls to go all out for Bunco so I won't be the only one. But I am okay with being the only one who goes over board. If my finances could only catch up with my dreams who knows how big I could do it.

Fall is here

So, I haven't gotten very far in my plans to blog. I guess if I was really disciplined I would be working on my goal everyday, but really people I have 4 little boys. Most days are hardly get to touch the computer much less work on a blog.

But fall is here and I am starting to feel inspired. I have my Halloween decorations out on the table and I am trying to figure out what to do with them. It just seems to be taking longer then normal this year.
